About us

Larool Pre-School is a community based, not-for-profit Pre-School licensed under the NSW Department of Community Services, Children, Care and Protection Act 1987. The Pre-School opened in July 1972 at the current premises, and since then has developed a sound reputation of providing excellent Pre-School education.  It is nestled in picturesque bush land, with a playground as a neighbour.  It accommodates 40 children daily in two generous sized classrooms, which face out to landscaped grounds.  There are two shaded sandpits and a slide that can accommodate 3-4 friends at one time.

Our Pre-School offers children a safe and caring environment to dream and grow, whilst stimulating discovery and learning, in preparation for school years ahead. Our reputation in the local community is well established, and we now have many second generation students receiving the same caring and stimulating start to their formal education that their parents enjoyed.

The Pre-School is managed by a committee of dedicated parents who are elected onto the Management Committee at the AGM each February.  The Committee acts on behalf of the members of the Association ie the parents, and aims to reflect the views of all users of the Pre-School.

Our Philosophy

Our Pre-School strives to create a warm and caring environment where children are encouraged to become independent learners through exploration of a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment.  We believe in the value of periods of uninterrupted play, where children choose their own hands-on activities, combined with teacher directed sessions such as story time and music and movement.
We aim to give all our children the best start possible, by working in partnership with parents to develop confident individuals who experience caring, respectful relationships with peers, and staff who value them as individuals.

Our Staff

Each of our two classrooms is staffed by a University trained Early Childhood Teacher and a Child Care Assistant.  We employ an additional assistant each day for five hours, who assists during morning craft time, and supports staff where needed.  Our bookkeeper is available on Mondays and Fridays.

Management Committee

The Management Committee is responsible for the Pre-School and decides how the Pre-School will operate.  The Management Committee employs a Director, an early Childhood educator, who is responsible for the operation of the Pre-School, and reports directly to the parent run committee.  The Management Committee meets regularly, usually twice a term, so it can review the running of the Pre-School, discuss any issues arising and plan for future events.

SPLAT

SPLAT stands for Social Parents of Larool Activities Team.  It is responsible for all fundraising and social activities of the Pre-school.  The Social Committee’s objective is to raise funds to enable the Pre-School to purchase additional resources eg new toys, equipment, craft supplies etc for the benefit of the children.  This includes helping to finance major projects eg redevelopment of the playground area.  SPLAT also aims to provide an opportunity for parents with common interests to become acquainted, and further maintain a family and community atmosphere at the Pre-School.

Funds are raised through a variety of events and projects, some designed to entertain, and encourage parent or child interaction outside the Pre-School; while others provide memorabilia and mementos of the children’s time at Larool.  Some of the social and fund raising events include annual trivia/games night, Welcome BBQ, Picture Plates, Book Club, lamington drive, chocolate sale, mothers and fathers day stalls, tea-towels, Bunnings BBQ’s etc.   There are also a number of ongoing fundraising projects that operate year round eg purchasing of Pre-School T-shirts, labels, or nap pillows, all of which generate funds for the Pre-School.

SPLAT is always looking for donations of goods/services for us to use during the year in our fund raising efforts.  Click here to find a full list of all the businesses that supported Larool Pre-School.  If you are a business who would like to donate goods or services, please email us at splat@laroolpreschool.com.au
